Over-The-Rhine’s historic Italianate buildings provide a
unique backdrop for an eclectic mix of galleries, shops, and restaurants. Just north of Downtown Cincinnati, the North
Main Street entrepreneurs offer items not found
elsewhere – everything from contemporary crafts, pottery, jewelry, beads, silk
fabrics and antique Indian saris, to decorative accessories ranging from
antique, to vintage, to new.
There are
two stores featuring mid-century furnishings and accessories, a large antique
store offering everything from armoires to doorstops, and several artists’
cooperatives. In addition to galleries
and merchants offering artwork (Base Art, 1305 Gallery, Enjoy The Arts, Classical Glass, Main
Street Gallery, Urban Eden, Kaldi’s Coffeehouse, Herman-Miller Gallery),
DesignSmith and Mainly Art also offer mid-century furnishings and accessories, Greg’s
Antiques offers everything from armoires to doorstops.
Vintage Poster Bank
offers technical objects and ephemera, and Kunlan-kaa features personally
imported African artifacts. Urban Eden presents contemporary crafts, fine art and gifts. Addicted 2
Luxury offers fabulous clothing and accessories, Kese Couture produces and
sells one-of-a-kind jeans, and Ink Tank offers a changing array of unusual
items in their “Rubbish! The Perpetual Yard Sale.”
The North Main
Street shopping district extends to New World
Studio and Publico, on Clay Street,
and to the Art Academy’s
galleries (entrance on Jackson Street.)
